This episode picks up where the last left off. A light saber battle is underway. The red bladed wonder is skillful as he is brutal. Saber strikes bounce off his helmet and hidden gauntlets, and seemingly short out the Jedi’s sabers. What substance could do this? Beskar repels saber strikes. In the Legends novels, cortosis was also known to dampen and stop the effects of a lightsaber. I don’t recall a story or scenario where it shorted out a saber though. It is unclear in this episode whether or not the substance of the masked red bladed menace is indeed cortosis but two clues possibly give it away. One, as discussed, it stops lightsaber strikes. Two, the mineral was described as a coppery color in legends novels.

Rather predictably, the masked wonder is revealed as none other than Qimir. In the moment I was a bit disappointed but will keep an open mind as the story continues to unfold. Interestingly there seems to be a connection between him and Master Sol. Before their duel began, Qimir tilted his head as if he recognized him…or something about him. It is clear they have a past based on their conversation.
“What master hides his face from his pupil?” Asks Master Sol, and Qimir responds, “You tell me.” This exchange seems to indicate that the connection between these two individuals runs deep, and that Master Sol is not all that he appears to be.
It was common for the ancient Sith to have unique features to their sabers. For instance, Darth Vader’s could extend its length in battle. Qimir revealed his when Jecki attacked him for the last time. He pulled a short saber from the housing of his saber and stabbed her three times.

“I have accepted my darkness, what have you done with yours” Qimir asks right after Osha stopped Master Sol from killing him. This quote is yet another indication that Master Sol has a dark side to him. This should not be terribly surprising. To become a Jedi, one must turn away from certain tendencies that could lead them down the path of the dark side. It is the Sith’s way to question everything a Jedi believes in. Sith are known to use words to attempt to cloud a Jedi’s judgement. Yet, there could be something more here regarding Master Sol.
Osha is a quick thinker. She used her pip droid to attract the creatures to carry Qimir away. Mae and Osha’s reunification is short lived as Osha decides to take Mae in. Mae wins and disguises herself as Osha. It is unclear why she leaves her sister behind….
