Season 1, Episode 6 – Teach/Corrupt

As this episode unfolds, we begin to realize why Qimir revealed himself. He apparently could sense that Mae would betray him. He was likely always curious about Osha. He may be aware of the potential for a dyad, but it’s more likely he view’s Osha as the next best option for the pupil he craves.

Though the show reports the planet as unknown, Qimir’s hideaway looks remarkably like Ahch-To. Qimir knew he had Osha instead of Mae, likely because she lacked the witch’s ascension tattoo on her forehead. He surmised how to manipulate her. As a long standing Sith, he knows what buttons to push, and he began to push ever so subtly.

During their conversations, Qimir reveals that his helmet is made of cortosis. The viewers should also note that there is a massive cortosis vein of ore inside Qimir’s cave. Finally, Qimir reveals that the helmet is a sensory deprivation head piece, like what he used as a youngling. It blocks out all your senses except your connection to the force. Why does Osha decide to try it on? Are his manipulations working?

Qimir presents as a calm, cool and polite individual. He does not present as wrathful or angry. He is a master of disguises. He describes himself as someone who served as a Jedi a very long time ago. What are his origins?  How old is he? Remarkably, he presents as likable. His ability to relate to Osha makes his presentation more insidious.

Master Vernestra Rwoh still chooses to not involve the counsel, despite the loss of so many Jedi. One wonders what else she knows about Master Sol. Does she have as much to hide as he? We do get to see her lightsaber whip in action. A light whip is nothing new to Star Wars lore, especially to those who have read the legends novels.

Master Sol clearly has massive internal struggles. As Master Sol works to find balance within himself, Bazil realizes that there is an imposter on the ship. Bazil works tirelessly to expose her. Eventually Master Sol becomes aware of the imposter as well. As this episode unfolds, we begin to see Master Sol’s demeanor change. He is desperate and angry. The mystery behind the twins and their orphanage is still unresolved but it is clear that he is at the root cause. Perhaps in his anger, it was he who murdered the witches….

There are several more questions to consider. Where did Master Sol jump to? How does he know where to go next? Who gave Qimir the scars on his back? Who was his Master? He does indicate that he was thrown away by a master…which is an odd way to describe himself. Could it be that Master Rwoh was his master, and she gave him those scars with the light whip?
