Bad Batch Preview

We are first introduced to the Bad Batch in Star Wars, The Clone Wars, Season 7. The first four episodes of the Final Season is about how Captain Rex, and the Bad Batch find, secure and save ARC Trooper Echo from the Separatists. The following is an overview of the characters detailing their personalities, weapons, strengths and weaknesses. Hope you enjoy!

The Bad Batch, also known as Clone Force 99, consists of Hunter, Tech, Crosshair, and Wrecker. They are an experimental clone force with desirable mutations. Hunter is the leader of the squad. He has a Rambo look about him. His preferred weapon is even a knife. He keeps the group together and leads them thru combat. Crosshair is not much of a conversationalist. He is the squad’s sniper. Wrecker is the biggest of the lot. He basically wrecks shop just about everywhere he goes. Tech…well Tech is the technical genius of the squad and always has a cerebral solution to a problem. They don’t appear to report to any Command in particular. They have worked with Commander Cody on a few missions, but their overall purpose is ambiguous at best. Let’s focus on each one of them for a bit.

Hunter

He is a natural leader. Everyone respects him. Easy in conversation, deadly in combat, he is very observant and a keen tracker. He is an excellent planner and tactician. He also is the master of unconventional solutions in warfare. Finally, while proficient in all forms of commando combat, he prefers to use a vibro knife, particularly in close combat.

Crosshair

Crosshair wants to work alone. He has an icy demeanor. He doesn’t care for working with regular clones, let alone anyone else. He is quiet, silent and deadly. He is also very resourceful. His sniper rifle breaks down and can be used a grappling gun. His sniper rifle can also shoot disabling ion darts. Finally, he has rigged a special magnetic disk that he can throw on walls that allows his blaster fire to bounce off the disks creating a crossfire effect in hallways. It is quite deadly.

Wrecker

He is the loud one of the bunch. The best way to describe him is that he is the proverbial Bull in a China shop. I think he is my favorite. He loves the physical explosive solution to problems. He carries a heavy repeating blaster and a vibro sword. For all his physical prowess he is afraid of heights. However, he is known to dumbbell press Gonk Droids while eating a haunch of meat! He is decisive in battle and fiercely loyal to his squad mates. Hates the word stealth.

Tech

He often has a technical solution for just about any problem. He is very cerebral. In combat he favors using two blaster pistols and is as deadly with them as he is smart. He is also the team pilot. Tech has translation software in his gear allowing him to communicate with any species as needed. He also records everything that goes on around him. You never know when you might find a piece of information useful.

Episode 1, Season 7. Overview

Episode 1 opens at the Battle of Anaxes. Anaxes, is a Core world planet and is where the Republic houses and builds its reserve fleet. Anaxes lies along the Perlemian Trade Route which eventually leads to Felucia, an Outer Rim planet.

Rex and Cody grow concerned that Rex’s battle plans are being thwarted at every turn. They convince Jedi Master Windu and General Skywalker to run a covert mission to see what is going on. However, Rex conceals the fact that he thinks Echo is behind all the successful Separatist attacks against his defense plan. Cody brings in Clone Force 99 to conduct the mission. Rex has never heard of them before and is understandably leery. The target is the cyber center which is thought to be the brains of the entire Separatist Campaign against the Anaxes Shipyards. After being shot down, Cody is injured. Wrecker show’s his immense strength in flipping the gunship over to save the pinned down Cody. Then, a platoon of B1 Droids attack and the Bad Batch go to work. Tech, calls shots, Hunter throws ion grenades and Crosshair hits the grenades just as they flew over or amongst the droids, disabling most of them after just two grenades. Once they clear out most of the battle droids they move in and mop up, each using their individual skill sets. They make their way to the Out Post just outside the Cyber Center. They quickly take it over and come up with a plan to take the Cyber Center. As they approach it, Rex decides a frontal approach is best. Crosshair is find’s an overwatch position covering the rest of the team as they make their assault. Rex and the Bad Batch quickly take out the droids on the parameter. As Tech is trying to disable the door, Wrecker kicks it in and rushes in with his heavy repeating blaster destroying all droids in his way. Once inside, Tech and Rex access the computer to see where the tactical signals are coming from. Droid reinforcements arrive and the remainder of the squad is left to keep them at bay. Crosshair finds a speeder for them to escape in. As they accessed the data, Rex realizes signal is tied directly to Echo who was once thought of as killed in action. The whole team makes the escape to fight another day.
The remaining 3 episodes regarding the Bad Batch deal with how they attempt to disable the strategic algorithm & possibly recover ARC Trooper Echo from the Separatists. For more details go watch Season 7 Episodes 1-4 of Star Wars the Clone Wars.
