The Togruta home world is called Shili. Much of the terrain on the land masses of Shili are colorful grasslands. As we watch the initial episode, one thing is abundantly clear, Togruta are a deeply spiritual people. They are connected to the land they live on. They are also a tribal people. I suspect there are large cities on planet Shili, however it is clear that the people of this village are comfortable in the hinterlands living a simple, spiritual existence.

Tradition is usually important to people of the frontier. Tradition creates a sense community and shared experience. In Ahsoka’s case, it is important to her mother to take her on her first hunt. Pav-ti made her kill. However, her afternoon labor attracted the attention of a predator. The akul caught Pav-ti by surprise but she held her own. Once the mobilized village arrived, the akul snatched up Ahsoka and spirited her away, deep into the forest.
Akul are usually hunted by the Togruta as a rite of passage. Togruta like to collect akul tusks as trophies. An akul killed by a single Togruta carries great honor and significance for the individual. They are allowed to use their tusks in traditional Togruta headdresses or necklaces. Master Shaak Ti has a single-handed kill of an akul.

Ahsoka’s unique gifts manifested themselves deep in the forest as the akul was considering making a meal out of her. Instead of a meal, Ahsoka gained a beast of burden, carrying her safely back to her village. The village elder recognized what this young prodigy was. Thus, we have the origins of Ahsoka!
